abstract | A compound of the formula wherein R 1 is H or CH 3, R is 1,1-dimethylpropyl, C 3-10 cycloalkyl, C 2 -C 10 alkenyl, C 1 -C 10 alkyl substituted with CF 3, phenyl, halophenyl, phenyl- substituted phenyl-C1-3 alkyl in which the substituent is halo, C1-3 alkylyl, C1-3 alkoxy, the dotted lines at X, Y and Z denote possible double bonds which, if present, are either a combination of X and Z or X , Y or Z are independently or the corresponding dihydroxy acid of the formula or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a C1-4 alkyl ester or a C1-4 alkyl ester of the acid, amesten with phenyl, dimethylamino or atsetilamino.6. A pharmaceutical antihypercholesterolemic composition comprising a pharmaceutical carrier and an antihypercholesteine-effective amount of a compound of structural formula I or a corresponding dihydroxy acid of formula II, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a C1-4 alkyl ester thereof or a C1- 4-alkyl ester of the acid substituted with phenyl, dimethylamino or acetylamino. A method of treating hypercholesterolemia patients which comprises administering an antihypercholesteinemically effective amount of a compound of structural formula I or a corresponding dihydroxy acid of formula II. |
