abstract This method is used in medicine to derive anti-helminthic and immuno-modulating agent S-(-)-2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-6-phenylimidazo(2,1-b)-thiazol hydrochloride (levamisole hydrochloride). It ensures a direct derivation of high output in a fluid medium of levamisole hydrochloride, suitable for application in the humane and veterinary medicine. The method relies on the interaction of S-(-)-2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-6-phenylimidazo(2,1-b)-thiazol-N-p-toluolsulfonyl-L-glutamate, with an alkaline reagent at pH - 8.5-9.0, until extraction of a homogenous solution, after which the value of pH is raised to 10.0-11.0. The crystallized S-(-)-2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-6-phenylimidazo(2,1-b)-thiazol is extracted, dissolved in an organic solvent, and, with the help of hydrochloric acid, is precipitated as a hydrochloride.
