abstract The invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of R (+) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-4-phenyl-1 - [(3-phenyl-3-cyclohexen-1yl) a new synthesis nervous system in which 5-oxo-3-phenyl-3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid is converted to five operations in the desired product. The invention also relates to a process for the separation of 5-oxo-3-phenyl-3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid using cinchonidine to produce (S) 5-oxo-3-phenyl- 3 -cyclohexenecarboxylic acid or -chimotripsin to a selective hydrolysis of n-butyl 5-oxo-3-phenyl-3-cyclohexenecarboxylate to produce (S) 5-oxo-3-phenyl-3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid and other valuable intermediates used in the process.
