titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR OBTAINING 4-ALCOYLHALOGEN DERIVATIVES OF 3-IMIDAZOLINE-3-OXIDE AND DERIVATIVES OBTAINED BY SAID PROCESS |
abstract | 4-Alkylhalogenated derivs. of 3-imidazoline-3-oxide of formula (I) are new (where R is H, alkyl, Br; X is Cl, Br, I; Y is O or alkyl) and are prepd. by halogenation of 4-alkyl-3-imidazoline-3-oxide of formula (II) (where R is H, alkyl or Br; Y' is OH, alkyl or O) by reacting with a halogen in an alcohol medium, pref. in presence of a catalyst, esp. an acid. The process, compared to prior art, has the following advantages:-1. elimination of an oxidation step using toxic Pb oxide; 2. halogenation is not carried out using halogeno-succinimide available in limited quantities only, but directly by a halogen, thus obviating use of toxic CCl4; 3. The obtd. prods. are free from impurities and do not require chromatographic purification and 4. the variety of prods. can be extended since iodine derivs. can be obtd. these being used in biological studies. The prods. are used as stabilisers, antioxidants, spin tracers in biological researches, tracers for controlling the flow of water and petroleum in applied geophysics, and in analytical chemistry. |
