abstract | Compsn. contg. a biguanide polymer or its salt, which in its free base form has the repeating unit. -X-NH-C(NH)-NH-C(NH)-NH-Y-NH-C(NH)-NH-C(NH)-NH- where X, Y = same or different bridging radicals and represent -(CH2)n- and -(CH2)m- respectively (where n,m = 3-12) or X and Y represent other bridging radicals in which when taken together, the total number of C atoms directly interposed between the two N joined by X and Y is 10-16, the biguanide polymer contg. a mixture of polymers in which the various chains are of different length, the number of diverse polymer units of formulae: -X-NH-C(=NH)-NH-C(=NH)-NH- and -Y-NH-C(=NH)-NH-C(=NH)-NH- taken together in a polymer chain is 3-80 and the chain terminating radicals are the same or different -NH2, -NH-C(=NH)-NHCN or -NH-C(=NH)-NH-C(=NH)-NR1R2 gps. (where R2 = opt. subst. 1-18C aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical and R1 = H or the same or different R2 radical). Used for control of bacteria, fungi and viruses which infest growing cultures and crops. The polymers are used to treat cultures, plants, seeds, crops and soil. |
