abstract Good yields of paraffinone-oximes organic intermediates, can be obtained with practically no amine impurities by mixing with each mol. equiv. of nitroparaffin(s) (opt. the crude nitration mixture) a catalyst system comprising (i) >=0.05 mol. equiv. Cu salt, pref. of a weak organic acid, (ii) >=0.1 mol. equiv. nitrated base, pKa >=9.5 pref. an aliphatic amine and (iii) >=0.1 mol. equiv. H2O pref. so that (ii)/(iii) >=60/40, then producing an atmosphere essentially composed of CO in the system and heating to 60-150 degrees C. Pref. the nitroparaffin includes an inert diluent, e.g. nitrocyclohexane or 10-20C nitroparaffins, esp. nitrodecane, catalyst is 0.1-2 mol. equivs. (i), 0.5-100 mol. equivs. (ii) and 0.5-100 mol. equivs. (iii).
