abstract In a first aspect, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an intrauterine device (IUD), wherein said method comprises the step of providing a coaxial rod comprising an outer polymer layer and a polymer core, and further comprising the step of cutting said rod from at least one rod segment of a predetermined length, wherein, simultaneously with cutting said rod segment from said rod, the rod end portions formed thereby are compressed into dome-shaped end portions, in such a way that said polymer core, at said dome shaped end portions, is at least partially enclosed by said outer polymer layer. In a second aspect, the present invention relates to a device for cutting a bar segment from a bar. In a third aspect, the present invention relates to a method for providing an intrauterine device with an extraction thread.
