abstract | A layer of finely divided material (6), consisting of a mixture (M) of iron oxides (1), a solid carbonaceous reducing agent (2) and a desulfurizing agent ( 3). The layer is heated to cause at least partial gasification of the solid carbonaceous reducing agent, which causes the release of gaseous compounds of carbon and sulfur. The reduction of the iron oxides is carried out by means of at least part of the carbon monoxide (CO) contained in the gaseous carbon compounds and by means of the desulphurizing agent, at least part of the sulfur contained in gaseous sulfur compounds. Finally, the reduced iron oxides and the residues of the solid carbonaceous reducing agent and the desulfurizing agent are separated. |
