An aqueous dispersion of fine acicular titanium dioxide which contains 20 to 60% by weight of solids and a polycarboxylic dispersant is of particular interest for the preparation of sunscreen agents. These dispersions are transparent to visible light and absorb UV in a broad spectrum. Usually, the largest dimension of titanium dioxide is 0.01 to 0.15 microns. The dispersions are produced by grinding, preferably in a fast mill, until the required absorbance in the UV is reached. |
