The present application is directed to storage-stable composition comprising a silk fibroin matrix and an nactive agent that is distributed and embedded therein. Bioactivity of the active agent is maintained after nfreeze-thaw cycles, or for at least 24 hours at 0°C. Active agents are immunogens such as peptides, nvaccines, nucleic acids, viruses or bacteria, or are small molecules, antibiotics, vectors or anti-venom for nexample. The silk fibroin is preferably dried by lyophilisation to form a solid state silk fibroin. Also defined nare kits and devices such as nasal sprays, syringes and dry powder injectors comprising this composition. nThese compositions are formulated to stabilise the active agent within the silk fibroin matrix, in particular, nvaccine stabilisation. |
