abstract [Problem] To provide an image acquisition device, which is suitable for acquiring an image by imaging the change in size of a cell over time at an appropriate focus position, an image acquisition method, a program and a culture container. [Solution] An image acquisition method which comprises: acquiring an image of a cell by an imaging unit, said cell existing in a culture container provided with a concave part housing the cell therein; calculating the outer diameter of the cell from the image acquired by the imaging unit; and specifying the focus position of the imaging unit from the outer diameter calculation result by referring to a table, formed in advance, in which a plurality of different focus positions of the imaging unit are associated with cell outer diameters.
