abstract | A method for discriminating Panax ginseng, P. quinquefolius and related products and commodities thereof using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) is provided, thereby discriminating the P ginseng and P. quinquefolius rapidly and easily using a small amount of ginseng samples. CONSTITUTION: A method for discriminating P ginseng and P. quinquefolius and related products comprises the steps of: extracting DNA from the P. ginseng and P quinquefolius samples; PCR amplifying of dammarenediol synthase (DS) gene region performing on the extracted DNA using a pair of DS primers; comparing the DS gene fragment of the P ginseng and P quinquefolius to prepare two specific SNP primers for P ginseng and P quinquefolius respectively; amplifying the PCR products of DS region of the P ginseng and P quinquefolius using the specific SNP primers by nested-PCR, subjecting the amplified DNA to electrophoresis, and comparing the electrophoresis band patterns.
