abstract A method of assessing acid forming characteristics of a sample, comprising subjecting the sample to a pre-treatment oxidation step to produce a pre-treated sample, wherein the pre-treated sample is subjected to a drying step to substantially dry the pre-treated sample, subsequently subjecting the pre-treated sample to at least one heating step; and subsequently introducing the pre-treated sample to a quantity of electrolyte solution to produce a sample solution, whereupon a measurable quality of the sample solution is measured, the measurement providing an indication of the acid forming potential of the sample.
