abstract SHIPPING WEDGE WITH LOCKOUT A surgical instrument (10) having a lockout mechanism (40) and being connectable with another component, comprising: a body portion (32); an actuator (46) movably mounted on the body portion (32), the actuator (46) having a knife blade (142); a lockout mechanism (40) movably mounted to the body portion (32); a wedge member (14) having a locking member (60), the lockout mechanism (40) being engageable with the locking member (60) of the wedge member (14), the locking mechanism (40) being movable from a locked position to an unlocked position, the locking mechanism (40) being movable in response to connection of the surgical instrument (10) with another component, the locked position preventing removal of the wedge member (14) from the body portion (32), the unlocked position allowing removal of the wedge member (14) from the body portion (32), the wedge member (14) further having a blocking portion (62) blocking movement of the actuator (46) and knife blade (142) until the wedge member (14) is removed from the body portion (32).
