abstract | Adhesive bandages 10 having a backing layer 20 with first and second opposing surfaces 22 and 24, an adhesive layer 30 applied to the second surface 24 of the backing layer 20 and an absorbent pad 40 associated with the backing layer 20, the absorbent pad 40 including a first surface 41 that faces the second surface 24 of the backing layer 20 and an opposing second surface 42 having a plurality of tufted regions 44 surrounded and separated by a first network of interconnecting channels 46 recessed in the second surface 42 of the absorbent pad 40; where the shape of the tufted regions 44 is a polygon having from five to eight sides, the tufted regions 44 have a substantially uniform first density, the channel base region 48 has a substantially uniform second density that is greater than the substantially uniform first density of the tufted regions 44 and the network of channels 46 is visible.
