abstract Disclosed is a water absorbent sheet comprising an absorbent layer, which contains a water absorbent resin and an adhesive, and nonwoven fabrics which are located above and below said absorbent layer so as to hold said absorbent layer, wherein said absorbent layer has a layered structure partitioned into a primary absorbent layer and a secondary absorbent layer by an air-permeable partitioning layer, at least one of said nonwoven fabrics is a spun bond nonwoven fabric, and, between said nonwoven fabrics, at least the lower nonwoven fabric is a hydrophilic nonwoven fabric. Although the aforesaid water absorbent sheet contains an extremely small amount of pulp and has a smaller thickness than the existing water absorbent sheets, said water absorbent sheet can secure the fundamental performance required for water absorbent sheets at a high level, exert a gel-blocking effect and avoid liquid leakage. These effects of the water absorbent sheet can be achieved by using a specific nonwoven fabric and employing a hydrophilic nonwoven fabric as the nonwoven fabric that is located below the absorbent layer.
