abstract Provided is a polyether production method with which it is possible to further narrow the molecular weight distribution of the resulting polyethers when the polyethers are produced using a double metal cyanide complex catalyst. A method for producing polyethers that have one or more hydroxyl groups by subjecting a cyclic monomer such as alkylene oxide to ring-opening addition polymerization with an initiator that has hydroxyl groups in the presence of a double metal cyanide complex catalyst, wherein the method for producing polyethers comprises an initial step in which a cyclic monomer is fed to a reaction system that includes a double metal cyanide complex catalyst and an initiator at a proportion of 5 to 20 parts by mass of the cyclic monomer to 100 parts by mass of the initiator, and is reacted. During the initial step, the temperature of the reaction system when feeding of the cyclic monomer is started is between 120ºC and 165ºC, and the maximum temperature of the reaction system after the cyclic monomer has been fed is between 15ºC and 50ºC higher than the temperature when feeding of the cyclic monomer is started. The method for producing polyethers also comprises a polymerization step in which the cyclic monomer is fed to the reaction system following the initial step and subjected to ring-opening addition polymerization.
