titleOfInvention | Salivary duct constriction systems and devices |
abstract | Systems and devices for controlling saliva production by a salivary duct. An exemplary system (550) includes a saliva control device (100). A vacuum is applied to a salivary duct to allow attachment of the device (100) over the salivary duct. The vacuum may be applied by means of a hand-held manually actuable pump apparatus such as a syringe-type apparatus that can be operated using a single hand. One embodiment of the saliva control device (100) includes an elastic body (102) comprising at least one elastomer and a constriction hole (104) formed through the elastic body. The stiffness of the elastic body (102) and/or the diameter of the constriction hole (104) are configured to provide a degree of constriction to a salivary duct sufficient to prevent a flow of saliva from the duct without cutting off blood flow to tissue surrounding the salivary duct. |
