abstract A dicarboxylic acid compound obtained by oxidative decomposition of the second sugar residue of the sugar chain of a pradimicin group antibiotic, namely, an antibiotic composed of a benzonaphthacenequinone skeleton, D-amino acid side chain and sugar chain; and a use thereof utilizing its microbe-specific binding capability. This dicarboxylic acid compound exhibits a water solubility significantly enhanced over that of the raw antibiotic while retaining the microbe-specific binding capability.
