titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR FREEZING CONSERVATION OF SAMPLES
abstract For cryopreservation of a sample containing water, in particular a biological sample, (a) the sample is introduced into a cavity (2) of a container (1) containing a water-containing liquid, the sample and the water-containing liquid jointly filling the entire cavity, (b) the Cavity is sealed liquid-tight, and (c) the container (2) with the sample to a temperature below 251 K, preferably 173 K, cooled, for example by means of liquid nitrogen, propane or ethane, wherein the container prevents a volume expansion of the cavity. The cooling rate is chosen to be sufficiently great that crystallization of the freezing water in favor of glass formation is suppressed
