titleOfInvention METHOD FOR CONTINUOUSLY NITROGENATING NOX-CONTAINING GASES
abstract Process for the continuous removal of oxides of nitrogen from NOx-containing gases, characterized by the combination of the measures (1) bringing the gas into contact with an aqueous scrubbing medium containing a nitrosyl complex former in order to absorb the NOx to form a nitrosyl complex and to remove it from the gas, (2) regenerating the scrubbing medium containing the nitrosyl complex by electrolytic means by oxidatively destroying the nitrosyl complex formed so that NO is liberated from the scrubbing medium and by subjecting the scrubbing medium which has been substantially freed of NO to a reductive treatment, and (3) reusing the regenerated scrubbing medium for the removal of oxides of nitrogen. The preferred nitrosyl complex former is FeSO4. A variant of the process comprises using, in place of the nitrosyl complex former, a reversible redox pair which is converted into the oxidized form by absorption of NO.
