abstract This application relates to methods of recovering metals from metal sulfides comprising contacting the metal sulfide with an acid sulfate solution containing ferric sulfate and a reagent having a thiocarbonyl functional group, wherein the concentration of reagent in the acid sulfate solution is sufficient to increase the metal ion extraction rate, relative to an acid sulfate solution containing no reagent, to produce a rich solution containing the metal ions.
