Claim 1: A compound of formula (1), wherein Y is C-F, C-H or N; R¹ is hydrogen, C₁₋₆ alkyl, C₁₋₆ alkoxy, C₁₋₆ haloalkyl, C₁₋₆ hydroxyalkyl, C₁₋₆ alkoxy C₁₋₆alkyl, C₃₋₆ cycloalkyl, C₁₋₃ alkoxy C₁₋₃alkoxy, C₁₋₆ alkoxycarbonyl, C₁₋₄ alkoxycarbonyl, C₁₋₄ alkoxycarbonyloxy C₁₋₆alkyl, C₁₋₄ alkylcarbonyloxy C₁₋₆alkyl, C₂₋₆ alkenyloxy, C₂₋₆ alkynyloxy, C₁₋₆ alkylsulfanyl, di (C₁₋₆ alkyl) amino, phenyl, C₁₋₃ phenylalkyl, phenylalkoxy C₁₋₃alkyl, phenoxy, or heteroaryl, wherein the heteroaryl is a 5- or 6-membered aromatic monocyclic ring comprising 1 or 2 heteroatoms individually selected from nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur; R² is hydrogen, halogen, cyano, C₁₋₄ alkyl, C₁₋₄ alkoxy, C₁₋₄ haloalkyl or HC (O) NH-; R³ is C₁₋₈ alkyl, C₁₋₈ haloalkyl, C₁₋₈ alkoxy, C₃₋₈ cycloalkyl, C₁₋₂ cycloalkyl C₃₋₈alkyl (where cycloalkyl groups are optionally substituted with 1 to 3 groups represented by R⁴), phenyl, C₁₋₂-phenylalkyl, heteroaryl, C₁₋₂-heteroarylalkyl, wherein the heteroaryl is a 5- or 6-membered aromatic monocyclic ring comprising 1, 2, 3, or 4 heteroatoms individually selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, heterocyclyl, heterocyclylalkyl C₁₋₂, where the heterocyclyl is a 4-, 5-, or 6-membered non-aromatic monocyclic ring comprising 1, 2, or 3 heteroatoms individually selected from nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur or a non-spirocyclic carbobicyclic or carbotricyclic ring system. aromatic of 5 to 10 elements comprising, optionally, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 heteroatoms selected individually from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur and wherein said spirocyclic carbobiciclyl or carbotricyclic ring systems are are each optionally linked to the remainder of the molecule through a C₁₋₂ alkylene linker; R⁴ is halogen, C₁₋₄ alkyl, C₁₋₄ alkoxy, or C₁₋₄ haloalkyl; X is N or C-H; or a salt or an N-oxide thereof.
