titleOfInvention INDUSTRIAL PROCESS TO PREPARE 6-PERDESOXY-6-PER (2-CARBOXYETHYL) THIO-g-CYCLODEXTRIN (SUGAMMADEX SODIUM) SODIUM SALT
abstract An industrial process to prepare the sodium salt of 6-perdeoxy-6-per (2-carboxyethyl) thio-g-cyclodextrin (Sugammadex sodium), comprising: a) reacting g-cyclodextrin with triphosgene in the presence of dimethylformamide (DMF) to obtain the intermediate compound 6-perdeoxy-6-perchloro-g-cyclodextrin; and b) reacting the intermediate compound 6-perdeoxy-6-perchloro-g-cyclodextrin with 3-mercaptopropionic acid in the presence of the sodium hydroxide base to obtain crude Sugammadex sodium. As an accessory, the obtained crude 6-perdeoxy-6-perchloro-g-cyclodextrin intermediate is purified. Additionally, the process comprises step c) of purifying the crude Sugammadex sodium by recrystallization to obtain pure Sugammadex sodium. The Sugammadex sodium obtained has a purity of the order of 96-98%.
