N-phosphonomethylglycine salts with the formula (1), where R¹, R² and R³ are independently hydrogen, sodium, potassium, ammonium, isopropylamine, n-propylamine, monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, dimethylamine, or a guanidine derivative with the formula (2), with the proviso that at least one of R¹, R² and R³ must be the guanidine derivative; R⁴ must be - (CH₂) ₘ- (NR⁹ (CH₂) ₙ) ˣ-NR¹⁰R¹¹ or - (CH₂) ₘ-CH (NH₂) CH (NH₂) R¹¹, polyethyleneimino, C₈₋₃₀ alkyl, or C₈₋₃₀ alkenyl; R⁵, R⁶, R⁷ and R⁸ must be independently hydrogen or C₁₋₅ hydrocarbyl; R⁹ and R¹⁰ must be independently hydrogen or C₁₋₅ hydrocarbyl; R¹¹ must be C₁₋₃₀ hydrocarbyl; and m, n and x must independently be an integer between 1 and 10. The N-phosphonomethylglycine salts and guanidine derivatives have an improved herbicidal efficacy with respect to glyphosate alone. Claim 1: A guanidine compound or a salt thereof characterized in that it is of formula (3), wherein R⁴ is - (CH₂) ₘ- (NR⁹ (CH₂) ₙ) ˣ-NR¹⁰R¹¹, - (CH₂) ₘ-CH (NH₂ ) CH (NH₂) R¹¹ or polyethyleneimino; R⁵, R⁶, R⁷ and R⁸ are independently hydrogen or C₁₋₅ hydrocarbyl; R⁹ and R¹⁰ are independently hydrogen or C₁₋₅ hydrocarbyl; R¹¹ is C₁₋₃₀ hydrocarbyl; and m, n and x are independently an integer between 1 and 10. |
