abstract Claim 1: A toothpaste characterized in that it comprises a binder system and a calcium salt abrasive, wherein the binder system comprises sodium alginate and calcium having a sodium: calcium ratio of 7: 1 to 4: 1. Claim 3: The toothpaste according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the abrasive comprises calcium carbonate in an amount from 25% to 60% by weight of the toothpaste. Claim 14: The toothpaste according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises: a binder system comprising sodium and calcium alginate having a sodium: calcium ratio of approximately 84:16, and which is present in the toothpaste in an amount of about 0.1% by weight of the toothpaste; natural calcium carbonate abrasive, in an amount of approximately 42% by weight of the toothpaste; carboxymethyl cellulose in an amount of about 1% by weight of the toothpaste; sorbitol in an amount of about 21% by weight of the toothpaste; sodium lauryl sulfate in an amount of about 2% by weight of the toothpaste; a source of fluoride, in an amount to provide approximately 1100 ppm by weight of fluoride ion; and silica thickener in an amount of about 2% by weight of the toothpaste. Claim 16: A method for reducing bacterial growth, cleaning teeth, removing dental plaque, reducing dental erosion, treating dental hypersensitivity, treating gingivitis, and / or reducing dental caries in an oral cavity, characterized in that it comprises putting in contact with the oral cavity with a toothpaste according to any of the preceding claims.
