abstract This document relates to the field of the preparation of haloalkoxyarylhydrazines and certain intermediates derived therefrom where said intermediates are useful in the preparation of certain pesticides disclosed in United States Patent No. 8,178,658. Claim 1: A process including: (1a) reacting a haloalkoxyarylhalide of the formula (1) with a hydrazine of the formula (2) in the presence of a palladium catalytic complex containing palladium and a ligand to obtain a haloalkoxyarylhydrazine intermediate of the formula (3); followed by (1b) hydrolyzing said haloalkoxyarylhydrazine intermediate of the formula (3) to obtain a haloalkoxyarylhydrazine of the formula (4); wherein R is haloalkoxy C₁₋₆; X is F, Cl, Br or I; n = 0, 1, or 2; wherein R¹ and R² are independently aryl, heteroaryl, substituted aryl, substituted heteroaryl or tertiary alkyl, in which the substituents do not adversely affect the reaction. Claim 2: A process according to claim 1 which further includes (2a) reacting said haloalkoxyarylhydrazine of the formula (4) with an arylalkoxysidate of the formula (5) to obtain an iminohydrazine intermediate of the formula (6); followed by (2b) cycling said iminohydrazine intermediate of the formula (6) using a formate source to obtain a 1,3-diaryltriazole of the formula (7); wherein R⁴ is NO₂, C (= O) OH, or C (= O) O-C₁₋₆ alkyl and R³ is C₁₋₆ alkyl. Claim 27: The haloalkoxyarylhydrazine intermediate of the formula (3) has the structure of formula (8) and formula (9).
