titleOfInvention METHODS FOR HANDLING PAPAYA
abstract A papaya storage method is provided which comprises the step of exposing papaya to an atmosphere containing a cyclopropene compound, in which either (a) papayas are in a modified atmosphere package during exposure to the compound of cyclopropene, or (b) papayas are placed in a modified atmosphere package after exposure to the cyclopropene compound, and papayas remain in the modified atmosphere package for at least two hours. In some embodiments, the modified atmosphere package is constructed so that the oxygen transmission rate for the entire package is 200 to 40,000 cubic centimeters per day per kilogram of papaya.
