titleOfInvention FORMULATIONS TO ATTRACT INSECTS AND CONTROL THEMSELVES
abstract Claim 1: A formulation for the control of insects containing: methyl eugenol; cue lure and a carrier of biodegradable wax; wherein said methyl eugenol and said cue lure are dispersed in said biodegradable wax carrier, and wherein said biodegradable wax carrier is operable to release the methyl eugenol and the cue lure for a period of time that extends at least four weeks. Claim 3: The formulation according to claim 1, further containing: water; wherein said formulation contains a fluid suspension containing solid particles of said biodegradable wax carrier suspended in said water, and wherein said methyl eugenol and said lure are entrained into one or both of said solid particles and said water. Claim 6: The formulation according to claim 1, further containing one, or more toxic agents for insects. Claim 8: The formulation according to claim 6 wherein said toxic agent for insects contains spinosad. Claim 10: The formulation according to claim 9, wherein the wax carrier contains a member selected from the group consisting of paraffin wax, carnauba wax, beeswax, candelilla wax, fruit wax, lanolin , shellac wax, bay berry wax, sugarcane wax, microcrystalline wax, ozoquerite, ceresin, mountain wax, and combinations thereof. Claim 11: The formulation according to claim 9, wherein the carrier contains paraffin wax. Claim 25: The formulation according to claim 1 wherein said biodegradable wax carrier forms a solid block, granule or powder containing a porous matrix structure, and wherein said methyl eugenol and said cue lure are entrained into said body Claim 28: A method of controlling one or more species of fruit fly, comprising: placing a formulation for insect control containing methyl eugenol, cue lure and a biodegradable wax carrier, and attracting a plurality of male fruit flies by one or both of said methyl eugenol and said lure in contact with a toxic substance for insects in said locus. Claim 29: The method according to claim 28 wherein said formulation contains said substance toxic to insects. Claim 30: The method according to claim 28 wherein said formulation is placed in a fruit fly trap located in a treatment area. Claim 47: A trap for catching fruit flies containing a vessel that defines a chamber and having an opening to allow fruit flies to enter said chamber and are adapted to substantially restrict the flies of the fruit come out of said chamber; and an attractive formulation for insects positioned within said chamber, the formulation containing methyl eugenol, cue lure and a biodegradable wax carrier. Claim 48: An insect control formulation containing: from about 5 percent to about 45 percent by weight of methyl eugenol in said formulation; from about 1 percent to about 20 percent by weight of lure in said formulation; from about 20 percent to about 80 percent by weight of a biodegradable wax carrier in said formulation; and from about 0.1 percent to about 20 percent by weight of insect toxic in said formulation; wherein said toxic agent for insects is selected from spinosad and spinetoram; wherein said formulation contains a spray emulsion; wherein said methyl eugenol, said cue lure and said insect toxic are dispersed in said biodegradable wax carrier; and wherein said biodegradable wax carrier is operable to release the methyl eugenol and the cue lure for a period of time that extends for at least four weeks.
