titleOfInvention | A METHOD OF RECOVERY OF LIGNOCELLULOSE BIOMASS SUGAR |
abstract | A process for the improved hydrolysis of glucans to glucose is disclosed herein where a portion of the glucose is removed from the procedure to improve glucose yield. Claim 1: An improved process for the hydrolysis of a pretreated lignocellulosic biomass comprising a solid stream and a liquid stream, said solid stream comprises glucans, xylanes and compounds that are not glucans or xylanes, said liquid stream comprises xylooligomers, water and compounds which they are not xylooligomers, wherein said process comprises the steps of: a) mixing the solid stream and a first portion of the liquid stream; b) hydrolyze at least a portion of the glucans in the solid stream to glucose and at least a portion of the xylo-oligomers in the first portion of the liquid stream to xylose in the presence of a first hydrolysis catalyst to create a first mixture of hydrolysis having a concentration of monomeric sugars of the first hydrolysis mixture and a concentration of hydrolysis catalyst of the first hydrolysis mixture, wherein the first hydrolysis mixture has a relationship between the catalyst and the monomeric sugars of the first mixture of hydrolysis which is the ratio between the weight of the hydrolysis catalyst in the first hydrolysis mixture and the total weight of the monomeric sugars in the first hydrolysis mixture; and c) withdrawing at least a portion of the monomeric sugars from the first hydrolysis mixture to create: i) a first product stream comprising water, glucose and xylose, wherein said first product stream has a concentration of monomeric sugars of the first product stream, a catalyst concentration of the first product stream, which could be 0, and a ratio between the catalyst and the monomeric sugars of the first product stream that is the ratio between the catalyst concentration of the first product stream and the concentration of the monomeric sugars of the first product stream and ii) a partially hydrolyzed stream, which is the first hydrolysis mixture from which at least a portion of the monomeric sugars had been removed, wherein the removal of at least a portion of the monomeric sugars from the first hydrolysis mixture occurs m While hydrolysis of at least a portion of the glucans to glucose is still being carried out and the ratio between the catalyst and the monomeric sugars of the first hydrolysis mixture is greater than, or equal to, the ratio between the catalyst and the sugars monomeric of the first product stream. |
