titleOfInvention | HERBICIDE COMPOSITION THAT INCLUDES POLYMER MICROPARTICLES CONTAINING A HERBICIDE |
abstract | This provides a herbicidal composition comprising a mixture of: (a) polymeric microparticles containing a first herbicide, where the first herbicide is a synthetic auxin herbicide (for example, dicamba, MCPA or 2,4-D) or a herbicide of acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor (eg, triasulfuron, tribenuron-methyl, iodosulfuron-methyl, mesosulfuron-methyl, sulfosulfuron, flupirsulfuron-methyl, or pyroxsulam); where the first herbicide, when presented in a salt-free form and when not contained within the polymeric microparticles, antagonizes the herbicidal activity of pinoxadene; and (b) pinoxadene. Preferably, the polymeric microparticles are controlled release polymeric microparticles, which, preferably, function in such a way as to control and / or decrease the release rate of the first herbicide from the polymeric microparticles in a liquid medium (for example, aqueous), when the Polymeric microparticles are placed (for example, dispersed) in the liquid medium and in contact with it. It is believed that containment of the first herbicide within the controlled release polymeric microparticles mitigates the antagonism of the herbicidal activity against graminoid weeds of pinoxadene, which, otherwise, could be caused by the first herbicide, depending on the circumstances. The present also provides a method for reducing the antagonistic effect on the control of monocotyledonous weeds in cereals other than oats, which is demonstrated by a herbicidal mixture of either a synthetic auxin herbicide with pinoxadene, or an ALS inhibitor herbicide with pinoxadene, which comprises the application of a herbicidal composition according to the present. Likewise, the present provides a herbicidal composition comprising (a) polymeric microparticles containing a first herbicide, and either (x) a non-ionic surfactant, or (y) a surface modified clay, as defined in the present application. Claim 19: A herbicidal composition as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the polymer microparticles comprise one or more polymeric matrices comprising: a crosslinked polyester polymer or copolymer; an epoxy polymer or copolymer; a phenolic polymer or copolymer of urea or melamine; a polymer or copolymer of silicone or rubber; a polymer or copolymer of polyisocyanate, polyamine or polyurethane; an acrylic polymer or copolymer; a polymer or copolymer of styrene, vinyl toluene, a-methylstyrene, divinylbenzene or diallyl phthalate; a polyacrylonitrile polymer or copolymer; a polyalkylacetate polymer or copolymer; a derivative of Cāāā alkyl and / or hydroxypropyl of cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose or calcium carboxymethylcellulose; polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) (crosslinked or uncrosslinked); and / or a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene (poloxamer) copolymer. Claim 22: A herbicidal composition as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the synthetic auxin herbicide is defined as a compound that is a herbicide and that, either by itself or after the elimination of any procidal group present, stimulates the expression of B-glucuronidase (GUS) in transgenic seedlings of Arabidopsis, line AtEM101, in an assay in which: seeds of AtEM101 are germinated aseptically in the middle of medium concentration of Murashige and Skoog containing a test compound in a dose range between 0 and 200 mM, and are tested in order to establish GUS activity at 6 days after germination; and or, for a quantitative GUS test, crude protein extracts from the seedlings are prepared, and a fluorimetric assay is used; or whole seedlings are transferred to 100 mM sodium phosphate regulator, at pH 7.0 containing 10 mM EDTA; 0.1% Triton X-100; 1 mM potassium ferricyanide; 1 mM potassium ferrocyanide and 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-b-D-glucuronic acid (X-gluc), 1 mM and incubate for 12 hours at 37 Ā° C; then the stained seedlings are extracted, and chlorophyll is extracted by soaking in 70% (v / v) ethanol; then the total blue staining amount is evaluated and visually compared; and a synthetic auxin is defined in this test or test as a test compound that exhibits a dose response of GUS activity or blue staining, depending on the concentration of test compound present during germination and growth of the Arabidopsis AtEM101 seedlings; and a synthetic auxin is further defined in this test or test as a compound that, when tested in the above conditions, and in a concentration of 50 M (50 micromolar), achieves at least about twice the activity of GUS or of the amount of blue staining, in relation to the amount of GUS activity or blue staining obtained with similar AtEM101 seedlings grown similarly in the absence of the test compound. Claim 38: A herbicidal composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, optionally comprising (c) an antidote; and optionally, (d) an additional herbicide; and optionally, (e) an oil additive. Claim 39: A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 38, wherein an antidote (c) comprising cloquintocet-mexyl, cloquintocet acid or one of its agrochemically acceptable salts, fenclorazol, or mefenpyr-diethyl is presented. Claim 40: A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 38 or 39, wherein an additional herbicide (d) is presented which is a sulfonyl urea herbicide selected from triasulfuron, tribenuron-methyl, iodosulfuron-methyl, mesosulfuron-methyl, sulfosulfuron and flupirsulfuron-methyl; or a triazolopyrimidine herbicide selected from piroxsulam and penoxsulam; or a sulfonylamino-carbonyl-triazolinone herbicide selected from flucarbazone-sodium, propoxycarbazone-sodium and thiencarbazone. Claim 41: A herbicidal composition as claimed in claim 38, 39 or 40, wherein (e) is presented which is an oil additive selected from an oil of vegetable or animal origin, a mineral oil, alkyl esters of said oils , mixtures of said oils and oil derivatives, phosphoric acid tris-esters with aliphatic or aromatic alcohols, and alkyl phosphonic acid bis-esters with aliphatic or aromatic alcohols. Claim 65: A herbicidal composition comprising a mixture of: (a) polymeric microparticles containing a first herbicide, wherein the first herbicide is a synthetic auxin herbicide or an acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor herbicide; where the first herbicide, when presented in a salt-free form, and when not contained within the polymeric microparticles, antagonizes the herbicidal activity of pinoxadene; and (y) a surface modified clay; where the herbicidal composition is a dispersion composition where the polymeric microparticles are dispersed in a medium or a continuous liquid phase; and where the dispersion of the polymeric microparticles in the medium or the continuous liquid phase is stabilized by the surface modified clay that acts as a stabilizer and / or as a dispersant. Claim 68: A composition as claimed in claim 65, 66 or 67, wherein the clay is a clay of the smectite group or a clay of the kaolin group. |
