| abstract | An aqueous composition formed by: (a) an acylisethionate of formula (1): R1CO2CH2CH2SO3-M + (1) where R1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having between 7 and 21 carbon atoms and M + is a cation; and (b) an additional surfactant selected from non-ionic surfactants, cationic surfactants and anionic surfactants that are not those of formula (1); where component (a) and component (b) together constitute more than 12% by weight of the composition. Claim 3: A composition according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein component (a) is formed by one or more of sodium lauroylisethionate, sodium cocoylisethionate and sodium oleoylisethionate. Claim 6: A composition according to claim 5 wherein component (b) comprises an alkyl ether sulfate of formula (2): R1 (OR2) nOSO3-M + (2) wherein R1 is an alkyl group having between 7 and 22 carbon atoms, R2 is an alkylene group having C1-4, n is 1 to 12 and M + is an optionally substituted alkali metal or ammonium cation.
