titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF AN ANTIMICROBIAL ARTICLE
abstract A procedure for preparing an antimicrobial article, in which a silver colloid is formed in situ as a result of the components employed. The process comprises the steps of: (i) providing a liquid containing a polar polymer soluble in a solvent selected from among certain organic polar solvents; (ii) adding to said liquid a silver salt selected from among alpha-functionalized silver carboxylates; (iii) allow the mixture to react with the formation of a silver colloid; and (iv) separating the solvent from the mixture and forming the antimicrobial article. The antimicrobial articles thus obtained can be sheets, films, fibers, coating layers, and especially membranes such as a semipermeable membrane for ultrafiltration, water separation or gas separation.
