abstract | Methods to reduce damage to crop foliage and achieve weed control using encapsulated acetamide herbicides. Also described are herbicidal microcapsules comprising a herbicide core material and a covering wall that encapsulates the core material. The microcapsules provide less crop damage through a controlled herbicide release. Claim 1: A microencapsulated particulate acetamide herbicide characterized in that it comprises: a water immiscible core material comprising the acetamide herbicide and a microcapsule having a covering wall comprising a polyurea, said microcapsule containing the core material, wherein The coating wall is formed in a polymerization medium by a polymerization reaction between a polyisocyanate component comprising a polyisocyanate or a mixture of polyisocyanates and a polyamine component comprising a polyamine or a mixture of polyamines to form the polyurea, in where the ratio of molar equivalents of amine contained in the polyamine component to molar equivalents of isocyanate contained in the polyisocyanate component is at least 1.1: 1, and where a population of the microcapsules has an average particle size of at least 7 microns approximately. Claim 68: An aqueous mixture comprising the microencapsulated acetamide herbicide of any one of claims 1 to 67, characterized in that said aqueous mixture is in the form of a concentrated or diluted spray application mixture. Claim 69: The aqueous mixture of claim 68, characterized in that it further comprises one or more co-herbicides. Claim 70: The aqueous mixture of claim 69, characterized in that the co-herbicide is selected from acetyl CoA carboxylase inhibitors, organophosphorus herbicides, auxins, photosystem II inhibitors, ALS inhibitors, protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitors and biosynthesis inhibitors of carotenoids, salts and esters thereof, and mixtures thereof. Claim 81: A method for controlling weeds in a field of crop plants, characterized in that it comprises: forming an application mixture comprising the microencapsulated particulate acetamide herbicide described in any one of claims 1 to 80 and applying the application mixture in an amount effective as a herbicide after emergence to crop plants. |
