abstract | Claim 1: A process for preparing 3-amino-3-cyclobutylmethyl-2-hydroxypropionamide of formula (1) wherein said process comprises: (i) reacting acetone cyanohydrin with a solution comprising a compound of formula (2), and a solvent that is substantially dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), whereby a compound of formula (3) is formed, wherein ôPö is an acid-labile protecting group; (ii) reacting the reaction mixture obtained in Step ôiö with peroxide, whereby a compound of formula (4) is formed in situ; and (iii) reacting the reaction mixture obtained in Step ôiiö with an acid, whereby the compound of formula (4) is deprotected and the compound of formula (1) is provided. Claim 18: A process for preparing (1R, 2S, 5S) -3-azabicyclo [3,1,0] hexane-2-carboxamide, N- [3-amino-1- (cyclobutylmethyl) -2,3-dioxopropyl] -3 - [(2S) -2 - [[(1,1-dimethylethyl) amino] carbonylamino] -3,3-dimethyl-1-oxobutyl] -6,6-dimethyl of formula (5) or a salt thereof compound; wherein said process comprises: a) preparing the compound of formula (1), or a salt of said compound, according to claim 1; b) converting the compound of formula (1), or a salt of said compound, into the compound of formula (5) according to a process described in U.S. Patent No. 7,012,066 or U.S. Patent No. 7,244,721, each of which is incorporated herein by reference. |
