abstract These compounds are active at the fixation site of the GABA A alpha5 receptor and are useful for the treatment of cognitive disorders, for example Alzheimer's disease. Claim 1: A compound of the formula (1) wherein X is O or NH; R1 is phenyl, pyridinyl, or pyrimidinyl, each optionally substituted by 1, 2 or 3 halogens, R2 is H or CH3 or CF3; R3, R4, R5 and R6 independently of one another are: H, C1-7 alkyl, optionally substituted by one or more halogen, cyano, or hydroxy, C1-7 alkoxy, optionally substituted by one or more halogen, CN, halogen, NO2, S-C1-7 alkyl, S (O) -C 1-7 alkyl, benzyloxy, optionally substituted by one or more E, -C (O) -Ra, wherein Ra is hydroxy, C1-7 alkoxy, alkyl C1-7, phenoxy or phenyl, heterocyclyl of 3 to 7 links, optionally substituted by one or more A, -C (O) -NRbRc, in which Rb and Rc independently of each other are: H, C1-7 alkyl, optionally substituted by one or more halogen, methyl, - (CH2) t-hydroxy or cyano, - (CH2) C3-7 t-cycloalkyl, optionally substituted by one or more B and t is the number 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, - (CH2) uO-C1-7 alkyl, in which u is the number 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, -CHRi-C (O) ORii, in which Ri is H, benzyl or C1-4 alkyl, and Rii is H or C1-7 alkyl, -S (O) 2-C1-7 alkyl or -S (O) 2-C3-7 cycloalkyl, - (CH2CH2O) vRiii, in which v is a number from 1 to 3, and Riii is H or at C1-7 chyl, - (CH2) w-heteroaryl or - (CH2) w-aryl, each of them is optionally substituted by one or more E and where w is the number 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 , - (CH2) x-heterocyclyl, in which x is the number 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, and in which the heterocyclyl is optionally substituted by one or more: oxo, C1-7 alkyl C3-7 cycloalkyl , optionally substituted by one or more B, CN, benzyl, optionally substituted by one or more E, - (CH2) and C (O) Riv, in which y is the number 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, and Riv is hydroxy, C1-7 alkyl or C1-7 alkoxy, - (CH2) zC (O) NRvRvi or - (CH2) z-NRvNRvi-C (O) -C1-7 alkyl or - (CH2) z-NRvRvi-C (O) -O-C1-7 alkyl, in which z is the number 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, and Rv and Rvi are independently: hydrogen, C1-7 alkyl, optionally substituted by one or more halogen , OH or CN, C3-7 cycloalkyl, optionally substituted by one or more B, 5 or 6 link heterocyclyl, optionally substituted by one or more A, or Rv and Rvi together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a heteroc icloalkyl of 5 or 6 links, optionally substituted by one or more A, or Rb and Rc together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a heterocyclyl or heteroaryl moiety, optionally substituted by one or more A, or Rb and Rc together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a spirocyclic heterocycle of 7 to 12 links, optionally substituted by one or more A; with the proviso that Rb and Rc are not simultaneously H, A is hydroxy, oxo, C1-7 alkyl, C1-7 alkoxy, C1-7 haloalkyl, C1-7 hydroxyalkyl, halogen or CN; B is halogen, hydroxy, CN, C1-4 alkyl, benzyloxy or C1-4 haloalkyl; E is halogen, CN, NO 2, hydroxy, C 1-7 alkyl, C 1-7 alkoxy, C 1-7 haloalkyl, C 1-7 hydroxyalkyl, C 1-7 cyanoalkyl, C 1-7 haloalkoxy or C 3-7 cycloalkyl; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
