titleOfInvention USE OF COMPOUNDS BASED ON LOW FUNCTIONAL NATURAL OIL FOR IMPROVING SPONGE MATERIALS
abstract Naturally occurring isocyanate reactive materials containing an average isocyanate reactive functionality of less than about 1.5 can be used to improve polyurethane sponge materials. For example, the use of said materials generally results in more open spongy materials than are obtained by the same formulation without said materials. Materials also help maximize the level of renewable resource materials used in spongy materials, especially visco-elastic spongy materials. The application includes a polyol composition containing at least one natural oil isocyanate reactive material that curtains an average isocyanate reactive functionality of less than 1.5 in an amount greater than that naturally occurring in any natural oil polyol of the composition. Although it is preferred to include at least one natural oil polyol in the polyol composition, doing so is optional. The application also includes a process for the preparation of a polyurethane that includes (a) the supply of an isocyanate composition containing at least one polyisocyanate; (b) the supply of at least one polyol composition as described above; (c) mixing an isocyanate composition and a polyol composition and (d) exposing the reaction mixture to conditions such that at least one polyurethane is obtained.
