abstract | A process for extracting a precious metal, such as gold or silver, from a sulfide mineral or concentrate or other source material that comprises subjecting the source material to oxidation under pressure to produce an oxidation suspension. The pressure oxidation suspension is flamed downward at a lower temperature and pressure and then subjected to a liquid-solid separation to obtain a pressure oxidation solution and a solid residue containing the precious metal. The solid residue is then subjected to cyanuration to extract the precious metal. The formation of thiocyanide during cyanidation is minimized or counteracted by cyanuration at a high oxygen pressure and a reduced retention period, such as 30 to 90 minutes. A method for reducing the formation of copper cyanide during leaching from cyanide is also provided. |
