abstract Claim 1: an aqueous topical composition that provides a topical antimicrobial benefit, characterized in that it comprises: an anionic surfactant constituent, which preferably preferably comprises one or more sulfate sulfate surfactants; optionally but preferably a co-surfactant constituent, especially preferably a betaine surfactant; a thickener system that necessarily comprises a polyacrylate cross polymer thickener constituent with one ovaries polysaccharide polymers selected from xanthan gum, guar gum, locust bean gum, tragacanth gum or its derivatives, especially a guar gum; an antimicrobial constituent that necessarily includes salicylic acid, salt of acidosalicylic or salicylate together with at least one other compound or material of antimicrobial action that are effective against gram-negative and / or gram-positive bacteria; a particulate cosmetic constituents; optionally one or more optional constituents that can be used to impart one or more desired aesthetic or technical benefits to the topical compositions and that are compatible with the other constituents present in the composition; wherein said topical compositions have an acidic pH, preferably a pH of about 5 or less and also where the compositions exhibit a viscosity of at least about 500 cps at 25s C.
