abstract Claim 1: A method for preparing a compound of formula (1) characterized in that it comprises: (a) treating a compound of formula (2), with an organometallic compound selected from the group consisting of isopropyl magnesium halide, isopropyl lithium, diisopropyl zinc and isopropyl zinc halide, to provide a compound of formula (3); and (b) treating the compound of formula (3) with at least one acid and chloroacetonitrile, under conditions to effect a Ritter reaction, wherein: R17 and R18 are each independently hydrogen, halogen, CN, -OCF3, -CF3, -NO2, (C1-6) alkyl, (C2-6) alkenyl, (C2-6) alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl, (CH2) nR11, or -O-C1-6 alkyl; R11 is aryl, heteroaryl or cycloalkyl; n is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4.
