Methods for using monoamine oxidase C (MAO-C), also known as renalase, as a therapeutic protein in its active and inactive forms. The administration of inactive renalase protein can be used to individuals with low levels of renalase to provide them with an adequate deposit of the protein that can be activated by the body when needed. The active renalase protein can be administered to individuals who need an immediate reduction in catecholamine levels. A renalase inhibitor can be used to increase the adrenergic action. |
