titleOfInvention POROUS CARBON MATERIALS AND SMOKING ITEMS AND FILTERS FOR THE SAME IN WHICH SUCH MATERIALS HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED
abstract A porous carbon material suitable for incorporation into cigarette filters that has a BET surface area of at least 800 m2 / g and a pore structure that includes mesopores and micropores. The pore volume (measured by adsorption of nitrogen) is at least 0.9 cm3 / g and between 15 and 65% of the pore volume corresponds to mesopores. The pore structure of the material provides an apparent density that is generally less than 0.5 g / cc. The material can be produced by carbonization and activation of organic resins and can be found in the form of spheres to facilitate handling.
