A compound having the formula (1) wherein R is linear or branched C5-30 alkyl, and mixtures thereof; R1 and R2 are independently selected from linear or branched C1-6 alkylene; Q is a hydrocarbon functional group that contains between 1 and 6 C atoms; Y1 and Y2 are H, SO3M and mixtures thereof; the index x is from 0 to 50; the z index is from 0 to 20; M is an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, organic counterion, ammonium, substituted ammonium or mixtures thereof. Detergent composition comprising said compound. Method for treating an article that requires treatment comprising the step of contacting the article with said detergent composition. These alkylphenyl alkanols provide improved biodegradability relative to surfactants derived from conventional alkylphenols. |
