titleOfInvention POLYMERS CONTAINING TRIARILSILIL (MET) ACRYLILE AND THE MARINE COATING COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING THEM
abstract Copolymers containing triarylsilyl (meth) acryloyl units and are erodible in seawater and can be used to formulate anti-fouling marine paints. The copolymers are characterized by low levels of triarylsilyl (meth) acrylate units and an erosion index in seawater between 2 and about 15 microns per month. The anti-fouling and self-gloss marine coating compositions containing said copolymers. Claim 1: A polymer having an Erosion Index in seawater that is suitable for use as a binder in an antifouling marine paint, characterized in that it comprises a copolymer of formula [A] - [B] -, wherein A is present between more than 9 and about 20 mol% and comprises XSiR3, in which each R may be the same or different and is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl or heteroaryl group, X is the residue of an acryloxy or methacryloxy group and B represents the residue of one or more ethylenic unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with A.
