titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF RADIOACTIVE SEEDS OF ISOTOPO 125 OF THE IODINE FOR BRAQUITERAPIA
abstract A method for manufacturing radioactive seeds of the isotope 125 of the Iodine, characterized in that: i) these seeds are constituted by a Silver rod tightly encapsulated in Titanium, said silver rod being covered by a layer of radioactive Silver iodide, said one being Silver iodide coating obtained from the substitution of a layer of another silver halide obtained by an alkaline oxidizing solution of the halide, and said sodium iodide being constituted with a concentration of isotope 125 of the iodine sufficient for the seed to have a radiation level greater than 0.1 millicurie and ii) the welding process of the Titanium capsule allows the dimensional control of the capsule and the positioning of more than one Titanium tube in front of the welding head, for the purpose of automating said process. Claim 1: A method for manufacturing radioactive seeds of the iodine 125 isotope, characterized in that: i) these seeds are constituted by a tightly encapsulated Silver Titanium rod, said silver rod being coated by a radioactive Silver iodide layer, the said Silver iodide coating obtained from the substitution of a layer of another silver halide obtained by an alkaline oxidizing solution of the halide, and said sodium iodide being constituted with a concentration of the isotope 125 of the iodine sufficient for the seed have a radiation level greater than 0.1 millicurie; and ii) the said hermetic Titanium capsule is constructed from the welding of previously cut Titanium tubes of a size such that it allows the capsule to be formed to house said Silver rod, said welding procedure consisting of: a) partially inserting the Titanium tube inside a block of a material that allows diffusing the energy applied to the parts to be welded, b) welding the free end of the Titanium tube, c) inserting the Silver rod coated with the radioactive Silver iodide, and d) weld the other end of the titanium tube.
