titleOfInvention GEN DGAT BOVINE POLYMORPHIC, MARKER OF MILK FAT CONTENT AND FLESH VETEATING
abstract Bovine polymorphic DGAT gene, marker of fat content in milk and meat veining, nucleic acid molecule encoding a CoA acyl: bovine diacylglycerol transferase (DGAT) that contributes to / or is indicative of low fat content in milk and low meat grain (intramuscular fat content) wherein said nucleic acid molecule is chosen from the group comprising: (a) a nucleic acid molecule having or comprising the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1; (b) a nucleic acid molecule comprising the polypeptide coding sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2; (c) a nucleic acid molecule whose complementary strand hybridizes under strict conditions to give nucleic acid molecule of (a) or (b), and where said nucleic acid molecule has the position corresponding to 10433 and 10434 of the DGTA gene ( SEQ ID NO: 1) a guanine residue and a cytosine residue; and (d) a nucleic acid molecule whose complementary strand hybridizes under strict conditions to the nucleic acid molecule of (a) or (b), wherein said nucleic acid molecule has in the positions of the DGTA gene (SEQ ID NO: 1) (i) in 3343 a cytosine, in 10433 a guanine, in 10434 a cytosine, in 11030 a guanine, in 11048 a cytosine and in 11093 a thymine; (ii) in 3343 a cytosine, 10433 a guanine, in 10434 a cytosine, in 11030 a guanine, in 11048 a thymine, and in 11093 a thymine; or (iii) in 3343 a guanine, in 10433 a guanine, in 10434 a cytosine, in 10030 a guanine, in 11048 a thymine and in 11093 a thymine, a vector that comprises it, procedure for preparing said gene and procedures to identify animals with certain fat content in milk and meat marbling. Claim 9: Host cell containing the expression vector of claim 7. Claim 11: Functional bovine DGAT polypeptide or a functional fragment thereof encoded by a nucleic acid molecule according to any one of claims 1 to 3 or produced by the method of claim 10 Claim 12: Antibody which combines with an epitope of the polypeptide or fragment of SEQ ID NO: 2, said epitope comprising an alanine in portion 232, but not with a polypeptide or fragment of SEQ ID NO: 4 having lysine in position 232: Claim 14: non-human transgenic animal comprising at least the nucleic acid molecule of any one of claims 1 to 3 or 5.
