titleOfInvention WATERPROOF COATING COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING DISPERSIONS OF HYBRID POLYMERS OF THE POLYURETHANE-ACRYLIC TYPE
abstract An aqueous coating composition is described which contains a polymeric binder containing polyurethane-acrylic hybrid polymer particles dispersed in an aqueous medium, which contain: i) polyurethane polymer, preferably 0.1 to 75% by weight, ii) copolymer of monomers with addition copolymerizable ethylenic unsaturation, preferably from 25 to 99% by weight, characterized in that the polyurethane polymer comprises the reaction product of: a) a polyisocyanate, b) a compound containing at least two reactive groups with the isocyanate groups of the polyisocyanate, c) a compound containing at least one dispersing group and at least one reactive group with the isocyanate groups of the polyisocyanate, d) a chain extender compound, e) a urethane diol, which is the reaction product of a cyclic carbonate and a compound containing an amino group and an additional group selected from amino and hydroxy, said urethane-dio It comprises up to 80% by weight of polyurethane polymer. The coatings have better abrasion resistance properties, and greater resistance to water and staining. An aqueous dispersion of a urethane prepolymer for use in the manufacture of the dispersion is also described.
