abstract N- (1-hydroxymethyl-2,3-dihydroxypropyl) -1,4,7-triscarboxymethyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane lithium complexes, of general formula (1), in which the three are described X represents a total of lithium ions and m hydrogen atoms, where n and m mean, each, the numbers 0 to 3; preferably 0.8 to 2.2 with the sum of n and m = 3, and Y represents chloride and bromide. A process for preparing the compounds of general formula (1) is also described, in which N- (6-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxepan-5-yl) -1,4 is reacted, 7,10-tetraazacyclododecane or its complex with lithium chloride or lithium bromide, with chloroacetic or bromoacetic acid and lithium hydroxide in polar solvents, at temperatures between 40 and 150 ° C and at a pH value between 8 and 14. The lithium complexes of formula (1) are used to obtain the gadolinium complex of N (1-hydroxymethyl-2,3-dihydroxypropyl) -1,4,7-triscarboxymethyl-1,4,7,10-tetracyclododecane free of salts, without using ion exchangers. This last process of obtaining turns out to be more compatible with the environment and more economical.
