abstract | It refers to compositions, oral topics, including therapeutic mouthwashes, especially mouthwashes, as well as toothpastes, gel, dental powders, chewing gums, mouth sprays, tablets, dental implements, and pet care products that contain the minus a minimum effective amount of chlorite ion, for the treatment or prevention of oral cavity conditions. It also relates to methods for the treatment or prevention of oral cavity conditions, including periodontal diseases, herpetic lesions and infections, both in humans and in other animals. A composition for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the oral cavity in humans and animals that consists in applying a composition in the oral cavity that contains: (a) from 0.02% to 6.0% by weight of the final composition of chlorite ion; and (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable oral topical carrier; in which the final composition is essentially free of chlorine dioxide or chlorous acid, and in which the composition is free of hypochlorite ions or hypochlorite salts, and has a pH greater than 7. Use of the composition for the preparation of a medication for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the oral cavity in humans and animals, which involve one or more inflammation of the gums, inflammation of the periodontal ligament, formation of periodontal pockets, bleeding or drainage of pus from the periodontal pockets , resorption of the alveolar bone, loose teeth and their loss. Said use in which said composition is a mouthwash applied to the periodontal pockets using a syringe, applicator or an electromechanical device. A method for the treatment and prevention of diseases in the oral cavity in humans and animals consisting in the administration in the oral cavity of said composition. Said method for the treatment of periodontal diseases in humans and animals includes the step of rinsing the mouth with said mouthwash composition to cover the tissues of the tongue, gums and mucous surfaces. A method to aid the healing and regeneration of periodontal tissue that consists in placing in a place that requires healing or regeneration of periodontal tissue, said composition that is retained in the tissues and slowly releases a therapeutically effective amount of chlorite ion on the tissue , wherein said composition that is retained in the tissue and slowly releases an effective amount of chlorite ion and another therapeutic active ingredient on the tissue. |
