abstract An improved process for producing carboxylic acids or their esters by the catalytic oxidation in the liquid phase of a corresponding precursor in an appropriate solvent comprising the feeding of the reagents to a first oxidation reaction zone at high pressure and high proportion of solvent, where the Oxygen uptake is limited to less than 50% of the oxygen necessary to achieve a total conversion of the precursor to its corresponding carboxylic acid, and the subsequent feeding of the resulting reaction medium to a second oxidation reaction zone.
